What does Shelter do?
We help more than 170,000 people a year fight for their rights, get back on their feet, and find and keep a home.
We also tackle the root causes of Britain's housing crisis by campaigning for new laws, policies and solutions.

Can I change my message once I have bought a house?
You cannot change your message yourself. However, if there are details you would like to change, please call us on 0845 458 4590 or email buildacity@shelter.org.uk and we will be able to change your details for you.
How do I report inappropriate messages or pictures being uploaded on to the site?
Please contact us at info@shelter.org.uk with the neighbourhood reference (e.g. 2,0) and the type of house. Alternatively, please call our Supporter Helpdesk on 0845 458 4590.
Is it secure to use my payment card?
Yes, all payments are processed by SecureTrading which is a secure site.
How does the map work?
You can use the arrows to go in all directions and choose where to build. The numbers up the sides and along the top and bottom show where you are. By clicking on a neighbourhood on the map you are taken to that area. If you know the grid reference of a friend you can also use the map to see if any plots are available. White shows neighbourhoods that have plots available. Grey shows areas that are full. Red shows the neighbourhood that is being shown on the homepage.
Can I give more?
Yes please. As you buy your part of the city there is an opportunity for you to ‘top up’ your purchase with an additional donation. Please give as much as you can.
Can I design my own building?
Yes, it is possible to design your own building. Please see the ‘How to Buy’ section for more details.
Can I buy as a present?
Yes, you can. Simply buy the part of the city you would like to give someone. You can then email them with the reference we will give you so that they can find it easily.
Can I sell my property?
No, properties cannot be sold to others once you have purchased them.
How long will this website last for?
The site will be live until April 2008.
Can I send messages to other people on the website?
No. It is not possible to send messages to other people unless they have given contact details in the message that is shown.
